Detailed Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Bangkok - Sukhothai

This morning you will be picked up by your guide and a comfortable join-in minivan (max. 6 persons) for a drive to Sukhothai with a stop at Kamphaeng Phet along the way to visit its historical park. Upon arrival in the late afternoon at Sukhothai check in your resort,
the rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2: Sukhothai

In the morning you have the opportunity to explore World Heritage Site Sukhothai Historical Park by bicycle: ruined temples, city moats and walls, palaces and irrigation systems offer great views and photographic opportunities. The art and architecture styles reflect the original Khmer, Mon, Sinhalese and finally Tai influences.
The afternoon is at leisure.

This morning you will be transferred by comfortable join-in minivan to Chiang Mai with stops at Si Satchanalai's historical park and Lampang along the way. The last one is the sole Thai town still using colourful horse drawn carriages for everyday urban transport!
Drop off at your hotel in Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Chiang Mai

You will be transferred to the Chiang Mai bus station, and assisted onto a airconditioned, public bus to  Chiang Rai (ticket included).
Upon arrival at Chiang Rai bus station transfer on own to hotel.

Day 6: Chiang Rai - Pakbeng

Pick up from your hotel  in Chiang Rai and transfer to the
border at Chiang Khong. After passing Thai Immigration take the boat
(own costs) to the other side of the Mekong River where your Lao
contact will wait for you at 9.00 AM. He will escort you to the boat
pier for your Mekong River cruise to Pak Beng on a private join in
boat*.

You will discover the life along the banks of the Mekong, a mystical
river which crosses through China, Laos, Burma, and Thailand before
flowing into Cambodia and entering the sea in Vietnam. The Mekong is
the main connection between northern Laos and Luang Prabang. The
river is surrounded by magnificent scenery and is a very busy
waterway used by many different kinds of boats.

During the cruise you will have the chance to stop off in a village
for a short visit.  Upon your arrival in Pak Beng check into your hotel on own.

Make an early start at 6.00 AM and leave Phetxokxay Lodge for a walk
to the market where you can observe locals trading local products
(take your camera along!) On the way you can see monks collecting
alms. Then take a small trek from the market to a nearby village
called Ban Keng Xang, before you will head back to the main road to
catch a tuk tuk to Vat Si Chomcheng Temple. Return to your lodge for
breakfast.

After breakfast head back to the boat jetty at Pak Beng lodge to
board your boat for the leisurely downstream cruise to Luang Prabang,
wich will take the whole day. En route you will have again the chance
to visit a local village.
Upon arrival in Luang Prabang around 5.30 PM, transfer on own to your hotel.

Day 8: Luang Prabang

End of the program. Extend in Luang Prabang, or continues on our overland trip to Hanoi via the plain of Jars, or to Vientiane via Vang Vieng. There are regular flights from Luang Prabang to  Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi and Siem Reap (Angkor).
